My name is Sebastian Braun. I hold a Ph.D. in Asian studies from Humboldt University in Germany and have worked in Asia since 2008. My experience spans diverse industries from advocacy to digital advertising and insurance. I am also a certified project management professional (PMP) and certified life insurance professional (LOMA).
As project manager for the German political foundation Friedrich Naumann Stiftung I wrote backgrounders for German members of parliament on current political affairs in Southeast and East Asia. I helped organize regional conferences and workshops on diverse tops such as democratization, economic freedom and regional integration. Project partners were important political and business leaders. I am thus intimately familiar with the political aspects of doing business in Asia (corporate lobbying, compliance, corruption prevention etc.).
Fascinated by new technologies, I ventured into mobile advertising, focusing on Added Value Services (VAS) through Cost Per Click (CPC) campaigns. As Asian economies are marked by young and growing populations, my experience in mobile advertising afforded me valuable insights into the workings of Asia's dynamic marketplaces.
As Consultant to the CEO of AXA Indonesia, I gained first-hand experience in the dealings of a multi national company. Paris-based AXA is one of the biggest global players in insurance and has formed a joint venture in Indonesia with the country's largest bank Bank Mandiri. I thus had to integrate four major cultures: the two corporate cultures of AXA and Bank Mandiri and the two national cultures of France and Indonesia.
In addition to my role as Consultant to the CEO where I focused on monitoring the qualitative objectives of the company's strategy plan, I also functioned as a project manager, improving services for priority customers. Project management requires strong skills in intercultural integration, as one has to bring together team members from diverse positions, departments and cultures. This skill was particlularly important at AXA where the four above-mentioned cultures called for hands-on intercultural management.
